Gabe Hamilton - Week 2 - Day 1

Plan:

Day 1
- Forms (top to bottom)
- One-steps (1 - 15)
- Self-defense (White - Orange)

The lesson went as well as I could have ever hoped. We started with Choong-Moo & worked our way down to Yol-Guk. After that, we switched to One-steps & went up to #15. Self-defense involved White, Yellow & Orange belt.

Forms
1) Choong-Moo
---Three run throughs of this form. All by count.

---Stances/Power good.

---Gabe retained a great deal of this form & will probably not need much time to have it ready.

2) Hwa-Rang
---Two run throughs of this form. Both by count.

---Stances/Power improved.

---A couple misses on those odd turns but largely the form looks good.

3) Toi-Gye
---Two run throughs of this form. Both by count.

---Overall improved from the last class. Much more confidence in the movements.

---Gabe ran through it on his own & had few hang ups. Looking good.

4) Choong-Gun
---Two run throughs of this form. Both by count.

---Flows much better now. There is more confidence in Gabe's movements.

---Gabe ran through it on his own & had minimal trouble. Ready for no count.

5) Yol-Guk
---Two run throughs of this form. Both by count.

---Flows very well.

---Gabe ran through it on his own. No problems I noticed. Ready for no count.

One-Steps
---Ran through 1 - 10. No real problems here.

---Introduced 11 - 15. Spent some time with them but no real issues.

---#15, as expected, was very easy for him.

Self-Defense
1) White belt
---No problems with wrist grabs. All are familiar to Gabe from Hapkido.

2) Yellow belt
---No problems with chokes. Gabe is very comfortable with them.

3) Orange belt
---No problems with hair grabs. Both are based on familiar techniques.

Training lasted approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes. Incredibly productive class! Gabe is retaining - and apparently working on - all the material we cover in training & shows improvement each time.

Next class, we will cover forms & try Chun-Ji to Yol-Guk without count. This will show any points where work is needed. One-steps will go up to #20 (right hand), if 1 - 15 are still in good shape. Self-defense will include White, Yellow, Orange & add Green. I want to spend a little more time getting One-steps up to speed since the self-defense aspect will be simple for Gabe.

Note: Get more students like this, sir! :-)
