Plan:
Day 1
Forms - 1 hour
Summary: Overall excellent practice. Given that Gabe has been away from TKD for almost two years, he demonstrated a strong memory of forms up to and including Yol-Guk. All forms were done in tandem with me.
1) Chun-Ji
---Two run throughs of this form. Demonstrated knowledge of the form.
---Stances good.
---Power good.
2) Dan-Gun
---Two run throughs of this form. Demonstrated knowledge of the form.
---Stances good. Some minor work on back stance.
---Power good.
---Technique excellent.
3) Do-San
---Three run throughs of this form. Some discrepancies from Mid-west to CVDA curriculum.
---Corrected opening forearm block, reverse punch. Gabe was taught punch at 45o
---Kicks, as expected, very good. Has maintained much of his flexibility & technique.
4) Won-Hyo
---Two run throughs of this form. Minor adjustments needed but mostly consistent with CVDA.
---Side kick technique very good.
5) Yol-Guk
---Three run throughs of this form. Corrected hooking block technique.
---Will require more practice but Gabe required minimal instruction to remember form.
---Good starting point for Day 2.
6) Choong-Gun
---Two run throughs of this form. Required some instruction to complete.
---Good technique. Memory of form seems to be coming back.
7) Toi-Gye
---Two run throughs of this form. Will need more time with this - by count.
---Good technique.
---Seemed mostly familiar but required some practice on 2nd half.
Concluded training at this time. Approximately 1 hour. All forms were done by count, except four-direction punch & Chun-Ji.
Gabe has retained much of the flexibility & technique he possessed when he was promoted to recommended black belt. He had very much energy & focused on each form.
Day 2 will involve one-steps & possibly self-defense, if time allows.
